it's better to travel than arrive

Sir James' Boatman's Cabin

I am absolutely delighted and I look forward to continuing living my dream and equally a relationship with the Braidbar team that I’m, sure will continue for years to come.

Sir James No.112

We finally made it to Macclesfield for our maiden voyage on the 27th December, probably one of the coldest weeks for a number of years ; for sure this was going to be a true test of the boats comforts with temperatures hitting -5 during our first few days on the boat. And what a maiden voyage it was.

I woke up following our second night on the boat to find the canal completely frozen in ice that must have been ½ inch thick. Following the initial panic our efforts went to planning how my sister , brother in-law and nephew would meet us and spend new years eve on a frozen canal! All for bailing out and planning a contingency for our new years eve celebration my nephew Ross was adamant we spent it on the boat ; given the temperatures this was to be a true test of the electrical, heating and comfort features of the boat.

And so we spend 4 days on the boat in sub zero temperatures ; and we enjoyed every minute of it. The boat was very warm, and despite it being the maiden voyage, all worked exactly as expected. In the end we had to leave the boat and have it “rescued” by Peter, as the canal remained fully frozen for almost three weeks – long after I had returned to work !
